a wedding in croatia …

I couldn’t wait to post a few images from our first wedding in Croatia!

Okay, maybe it wasn’t exactly OUR wedding and maybe we just happened to be there but what a GREAT photo op! :-) … During my recent trip to visit Griffin in Bosnia, we took a side-trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia and toured the beautiful Old Town part of the city.  Of course, Griffin and I had cameras in tow and although she was a seasoned traveler to the city, she graciously humored me as I stopped to take pictures of EVERYTHING I saw. :-)   As we were walking around near the Church of St. Blaise (the 18th-century baroque church on Luza Square), we realized that we were smack dab in the middle of a wedding that was about to start!   The bride and her father were walking to the church for the start of the ceremony so we quickly grabbed our cameras to take a few shots.  Once the bride made her way into the church (yes, we momentarily thought of going in – ha!), we debated as to whether or not we should hang around until they came back out.  We knew the wedding ceremony might go on for a while so we reluctantly decided not to wait.   About 20 minutes later, as we were leisurely walking back towards the church (cold gelatos in hand), we heard horns blowing and people shouting.  We couldn’t believe it – the bride and groom had already come out of the church and were now heading toward us in their ‘going away’ vintage Fiat sports car!  What?!  Already?!  How did we miss the grand exit?!

But, here’s the best part of the story:  Later on, as Griffin was looking over her shots, she said, ‘Hey Mom, the bride in the car isn’t the same one that went into the church!”  No way …. are you sure??  As we compared shots I realized she was right!  These were two different brides!!!  One went in, another came out!  We couldn’t stop laughing – where did the first bride go?  Griffin SAW her walking down the aisle toward the altar!  It wasn’t like she went into some holding room … so strange – we never did figure it all out but what’s even funnier – these brides really resembled each other at first glance – same hair color, hair style, dress style, and even the same flowers?!  … totally weird!

Griffin and I spent hours walking the fortress walls of the Old City – a picture at every turn!

Mostar (in Bosnia i Hercegovina) was named after “the bridge keepers” (natively: mostari) who kept the Stari Most (Old Bridge) over Neretva river. During the Ottoman era, the Old Bridge was built and became one of the symbols of Mostar.(below) Isn’t it beautiful?and I couldn’t resist this bridal shop storefront in the Old Town of Sarajevo, Bosnia i Hercegovina – priceless!
